    Class Descriptions

    Ballet

    CREATIVE MOVEMENT Ages 3 - 5 years (Must be potty trained)
    This is an introductory ballet class where the young ones will learn basic dance and music skills. Technical vocabulary will be introduced.
    45 minute class

    PRE-BALLET I Ages 5 - 6 years
    This class will prepare students for Ballet I technique. Exercises will be introduced to strengthen the ankles, feet, back, stomach, and neck. Time will be spent introducing center work and combinations.

    PRE-BALLET II Ages 7 - 8 years
    Pre-Ballet II will take the student into more advanced exercises with center work and combinations that will enhance the skill level of the student.

    BALLET I Ages 7 - 10 years
    Ballet I allows the students to develop a larger Cecchetti vocabulary while introducing fifth position to barre and center work.

    BALLET II Ages 9 years and up
    Increased vocabulary and technique is introduced in Ballet II. Ballet II is a prerequisite to Ballet III.

    BALLET III
    Ballet III is a prerequisite to Ballet IV, and is placed by teacher recommendation.. Two hour class (one hour twice a week)

    BALLET IV
    Ballet IV is a more advanced ballet class with instruction on more advanced technique, and is placed by teacher recommendation. Three hour class (two 1 1/2 sessions per week)

    BALLET V
    Ballet V, a “ballet intensive”, will be introduced to advanced technique and choreography. Placement by audition and/or teacher recommendation. Three hour class (1 1/2 hour sessions twice a week) Placement in each section will be made according to age.

    BALLET VI
    This class is designed for the student who has mastered level V and is considering professional Ballet as an option. Placement by teacher invitation only. Three hour class (two 1 1/2 hour session per week)

    BOYS BALLET Ages 6 - adult
    Ballet is the "trunk of the tree" for every dance style, both classical as well as contemporary. We feel it is important that all of our dancers and performers learn the basics of ballet and barre work. Many athletes from virtually every sport have either taken ballet or are currently taking a class. This "boys only" class will be a non-threatening introduction of the dance. This is a non-recitaled class, and costume fees will not be collected.

    PRIVATE DANCE TUTORING
    Private lessons are available to any serious student on a weekly basis in order to develop and strengthen technique and choreography. Sign ups for each session are done one week in advance of the class the student wishes to attend. Students will need to sign up at the front desk. Cost for each session is $25.00 for one hour. Sessions will include up to a maximum of three students, but many times include only one. Classes will be offered in all dance styles with the students specific teacher for that style. Tutoring not available with any other teacher except the one assigned to the student's normal dance class.


    POINTE I - Beginner Level

    Pointe is a class for girls who have demonstrated key strengths in the legs, back, and feet. Normally the age to begin Pointe is 11 and 12. The specific instructor and studio dance director will make the final assessment of the student’s readiness. The class begins with work at the barre developing ankle strengthening exercises, and finishes with exercises at center and across the floor. The student must be enrolled in a Ballet Class in order to participate in the class

    POINTE II - Intermediate Level (Teacher placement)

    POINTE III - Advanced Level (Teacher Placement)

    Modern

    MODERN I Ages 6 - 9 years
    This class teaches basic contemporary movement that strengthens the core of the dancer’s body that are required for any dance style. The class will focus on contractions, isolations, and improvisation.

    MODERN II Ages 7 - 12 years
    Modern II will explore L.A. style movement, and is a prerequisite to Modern III.

    MODERN III Ages 11 and up
    This is the advanced class and is placed by teacher recommendation.

    MODERN IV Ages 13 and up
    This is an exciting class with more abstract and physical technique and choreography. Placement by audition and/or teacher recommendation.

    Jazz

    JAZZ I Ages 6 - 9 years
    This class teaches the basics of jazz movement with contemporary and Broadway-style music. Students learn isolations, stretches, across the floor jazz walks, turns and leaps.

    JAZZ II Ages 7 - 12 years
    This class takes the dancer through more connecting movement while teaching more technical jazz vocabulary. Prerequisite: Jazz I

    JAZZ III Ages 11 and up
    Prerequisite: Jazz II and teacher recommendation.

    JAZZ IV Ages 13 and up
    Prerequisite: Jazz III and teacher recommendation

    JAZZ V
    Prerequisite: Jazz IV and teacher recommendation

    Adult Dance
    ADULT DANCE
    This class is designed for adults who have either had some training or none at all. Several dance styles will be explored including ballet, jazz, tap, and conditioning. This will be a fantastic class to learn the "how-to's" while enjoying the fellowship of other adults in a non-threatening environment.


    Broadway Dance

    BROADWAY DANCE STYLES - Ages 8-adult
    This class will explore various dance styles used on Broadway. Choreography from several popular musicals will be learned. This class is for anyone who wants to learn the value of a "Triple Threat" in theater and dance. This will be an exciting and fast-paced class.

    Tap

    TAP I Ages 6 - 9 years
    Tap I focuses on rhythm and making “melodies” with the feet. This class will introduce rhythmic steps and tap vocabulary.

    TAP II Ages 7-12 years
    More extensive center and across the floor work along with challenging choreography. Prerequisite: Tap I

    TAP III Ages 11 and up
    More advanced tap. Prerequisite: Tap II and teacher recommendation.

    TAP IV Ages 13 and up
    The advanced tap class for the serious “hoofer!” Prerequisite: Tap III and/or teacher recommendation.

    TAP V
    Prerequisite: Tap IV and teacher recommendation

    Hip Hop - Funk

    This will be exciting, energetic, and a blast! These classes will promote a unique and exuberant style of movement while developing strength and stamina.

    HIP HOP I Ages 6-9

    HIP HOP II Ages 7-12

    HIP HOP III Ages 11 and up
    This is an advanced class and is placed by teacher recommendation.

    HIP HOP IV Ages 13 and up

    Theater Classes

    These theater classes will explore the role of the “triple threat “ performer. Time will be given to how acting, dance, and singing combine to make an unbeatable combination. Many of the classic Broadway musicals will be studied. This class will also explore the craft of stage acting. Students will be taught how to properly manage their stage space while learning the how-to’s of method acting and characterization. Time will be given to interpreting scripts, developing improvisational skills, and emotional realism. A Broadway musical will be selected by the instructor to be performed in the spring. Each class level will perform a separate musical.

    All theater students are required to take a dance class. Broadway Dance Styles has been added to our course offerings to meet the needs of the actor who does not want to take a specific style of dance.

    MUSICAL THEATER I: Ages 8-12

    MUSICAL THEATER II: Ages 13 through adult

    Group Vocal Lessons

    Group lessons will be given for up to 15 vocalists per class. These classes will include proper singing technique applicable to the age group as well as a preparing a group repertoire. Time will be given to technical warm up and diaphragmatic breathing. This class is a must for all serious, aspiring actors and actresses.

    GROUP VOCAL LESSONS I - ages 8 - 12

    GROUP VOCAL LESSONS II - ages 13 - adult


    Mime

    World renowned mime artist, Marcel Marceaux, developed this style of mime. It is fresh, exciting, and convincing. The student will learn how to communicate with their bodies. Corporeal mime will be the basis for this class. Vignettes will be studied and performed. Time will be given to stage make-up and costuming. This class is vital to those in dance or drama, as 80% of communication is non-verbal.

    MIME I - Ages 8-adult - Beginner level

    MIME II - Ages 8- adult - Intermediate Level. Prerequisite Mime I

    MIME III - Ages 8 - adult - Advanced Level - Prerequisite: Mime II and teacher invitation only. This class will be given to more advanced and abstract mime styles as well as performance pieces.
